The Ring of Combat will be kicking off the Beast of the Northeast Tournament on Friday, September 7, at the Tropicana Resort & Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Presented by World Champion Lou Neglia, 32 fighters from the Northeast United States will begin their journey to be crowned the top Mixed Martial Artists in the Northeast at the Finals on November 30. Pennsylvania will be represented with at least five fighters on the card. Dave Sachs of the Pittsburgh Fight Club and Biff Walizer of Team Red Lion compete in seperate lightweight division fights, while Charlie Brenneman of Cambria Martial Arts and PA Grappling in Altoona, and Chris Reedy of Xtreme Fitness Club in St. Clair square off against each other in a welterweight division fight, and John Doyle fights in the light-heavyweight division. From EliteXC : In a performance that earned him "EliteXC Fighter of the Night" honors, Jon Murphy (4-2) of the Anthracite Combat Club in Schuylkill Haven, scored a spectacular second-round knockout over David Huckaba (5-2) of Sacramento, Califronia, with a series of punches, the most damaging of which were four vicious right hands, last night at the Vicksburg Conventon Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi, in their fight seen on Showtime.

Three fighters from Steve Blackman Fighting Systems in Harrisburg will step into a 30' circular cage next week when Global Combat Alliance presents Valhalla II - New Beginnings at the Dulles Sportsplex in Sterling, Virginia, on Saturday, September 1. The 185-pound Boris Rakita will make his first appearance, while the 200-pound Terrill Leach returns in his second appearance, and holder of multiple WKA championships and number two seed Dustin Pague will compete in the first round of the Valhalla 155-pound tournament. His opponents names, their academies and the final scores of each match may be sketchy, but what is clear is that Pittsburgh native and 2006 ADCC Amateur Open Advanced Champion, James Brasco, dominated the Absolute Division Saturday at the Planet Submission tournament in Winter Haven, Florida. The Team Popovitch purple belt had 3 matches. He defeated a 235-pound wrestler from Team Fighters Edge in Lakeland in his first match, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and well-respected instructor Renato Tavares of American Top Team in Orlando in his second match and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Ricardo Torlino in the finals. According to promoter Dieuseul "Tiger" Berto, Brasco "completely dominated" in his matches in what was a "great absolute division."

LFMAC has become an affliate of RGDA earlier this month. Jeremy Bigler, John Tersha, Dave Romano and Derek Frey competed at NAGA in Wildwood, New Jersey on Saturday, August 4. Romano fisnished second in the White Belt Masters Flyweight division and Frey won 5 matches (4 by submission) to win the 150-159.9lb Men's White Belt division. Seven members of LFMAC attended the Rosendo Diaz seminar on Saturday, August 11. At the seminar, Jeremy Bigler and Derek Frey were awarded their much-deserved blue belts by Diaz. Shane Mock, owner and lead instructor of Berks County Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Sinking Spring won the Advanced Master's (Over 30) Cruiserweight division at NAGA Battle at the Beach in Wildwood, New Jersey, yesterday. Mock won three really tough matches, including one over a brown belt. Also, from the The Garage Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Harrisburg, Randy Frey took 1st in No-Gi and 2nd in Gi in the Over 40 lightweight divisions.

Pittsburgh native James Brasco of Team Popovitch in Ft. Lauderdale, makes his MMA debut at World Extreme Fighting on Friday, August 10, when he faces William Parker of Team Fighters Edge in Lakeland, in a middleweight fight at the Osceola Heritage Park in Orlando, Florida. The 32-year-old Brasco has wrestled for 22 years, earning multiple accolades on the mat. Listed in the USAW Hall of Fame of Champions, Brasco had a 127-10 high school record, which earned him membership in the WPIAL Century Club, and has over 100 wins in college. Brasco is a Duquesne University amateur boxer. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt made his submission grappling debut at the 2001 Gracie Worlds going 2-1 in the professional division. He is a multiple-time NAGA advanced division champion, a Kumite Classic champion and a Grapplers Quest USA Team Trials invitee. His ability to adjust styles easily was evident at the 2004 AAU Grand Nationals, as he won each the Folk Style, Freestyle and Greco Roman 197 pound divisions. Brasco won the 2006 ADCC Amateur Open Advanced Championship.
