The Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission voted unanimously today to explore regulations on professional and amateur MMA in PA. It was a very positive meeting attended by Steve Blackman (representing his fight team out of Harrisburg), Paul Rosner (President, USKBA), Ed Hsu (Promoter, Combat in the Cage), Greg (Director, Hershey Capital Region Visitors Bureau), and myself, Joseph Cunliffe.

World Champion Louis Neglia presents the Semi-Finals of his Tournaments of Champions MMA series at Ring of Combat XIII, on Friday, March 16, at the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Round 2 of the series consists of 12 of the most talented, exciting and undiscovered MMA fighters in 3 weight divisions from all over United States, as well as South America and Europe stepping into the ROC ring to take their shot at advancing to the Finals and earning their share of $100,000 in prizes. Seven additional fights fill out what is expected to be an action-packed card. At 143 pounds, Khristian Geraci of Pittsburgh Fight Club in Pittsburgh, faces Shennen Maceo of Team Tiger Schulmann in Danbury, Connecticut. The 29-year-old Geraci is a professional boxer with a lot of talent and ability in the ring. Refocused with a good team in his corner, he is not discouraged by some of his previous losses. Maceo is an accomplished WKA and USKBA kickboxing champion making his MMA debut. At 184 pounds, Don Wagner of Shido Seimei Martial Arts in Williamsport takes on Carmine Zocchi of New York. Gladiator Challenge lightweight champion Mac Danzig makes his Pride Fighting Championships debut this Saturday, February 24, against Hayato Sakurai at Second Coming in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 27-year-old grew up in the greater Pittsburgh area before moving to Los Angeles to pursue his MMA career. Danzig is coming off a loss to Clay French after a 12 fight undefeated streak in 2 years. Danzig offers fans an inside look at his training and life.

Williamstown native Mike Ciesnolevicz, a member of the IFL Silverbacks, coached by world-renowed mixed martial artist Pat Miletich, was interviewed recently. The interview covers his start as a professional fighter through karate some 12 years ago to wanting to fight his idol Ken Shamrock today. Ciesnolevicz is scheduled to fight May 19 in the Chicago IFL against a member of the Red Bears, coached by Igor Zinoviev.

Congratulations to Matt Makowski of Team MFS/Daddis in Philadelphia, as he defeated Brad Frank of Rhino Fight Team in New Jersey by rear naked choke submission at just 0:31 of Round 1 to earn the USKBA Amateur MMA Light Heavyweight Northeast Championship at Combat in the Cage Adrenaline Rush Saturday night. Both Muay Thai practitioners entered the cage undefeated in MMA. The Sinking Spring resident is a student at Temple University.

Results are starting to come in from last nights Combat in the Cage's Adrenaline Rush. Berks County BJJ's Paul Laplaca, in his MMA debut, won by submission in the 3rd round. Laplaca finished with a standing guillotine to defeat Jonathan Zarnosky of Team MFS/Daddis at about the halfway point of Round 3 of their heavyweight fight. The fight was very exciting with a lot of big slams and a hard knee to the abdomen by Laplaca in the 1st round. Laplaca wants to thank everyone who put in extra time and effort to help him get ready to fight. Jorge Olmeda-Ortiz of Team Quiet Storm lost a decision to Danny Carbonal of Team Endgame in their Super Welterweight fight.
